We are a group of dedicated runners who have come to enjoy the life of being active. We enjoy helping others become active while we ourselves run in various distance races and obstacle mud runs. We place a lot of value in having fun, being social, and motivating one another. We believe that no matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everyone sitting on the couch.
Each of us have different goals but we all realize that running is more fun with a group. When a group of people are expecting you to show up, it is much more motivating. Running with a group increases motivation and commitment to a program and thus achieving your goals. We know that, and that's why we have become a year-round training group.
The Head Coach and Administrator for this group is Bob Comartin.
Bob has been running for about 28 years. He started as a walk/run leader in the Sun Run training clinics. He moved on to clinic coordinator and shortly thereafter became the Fraser Valley Coordinator (8 clinics) with SportMed BC's Sun Run Training Clinics. In 2005, he coordinated the Hyde Creek Sun Run clinic and realized the potential for growing a running program in Port Coquitlam. We are now a year-round club enjoying running programs linked to specific events. We now have 20 leaders who look forward to motivating new runners and experienced runners looking for a group to train with. Our main clinics include the walk/run 5k, walk/run 10k, 10k run, 15k run, half marathon, and the occasional marathon.
Bob earned his Bachelor of Human Kinetics, Honours in Kinesiology in 1992 from the University of Windsor and is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist. He worked in the area of High performance training as the lead Strength & Conditioning Specialist with the Canadian Curling Association's National Team Program through 4 Winter Olympic cycles. He also worked as strength coach and athletic therapist for the BC Lions Football Team and several provincial sport organisations. Bob completed his Bachelor of Education, major in French in 2013 from Simon Fraser University and is now an elementary school teacher in French immersion.
Our leaders are experienced runners. They are graduates of our training programs and each one brings something special to our programs. Some started in our walk/run program and completely understand what it's like to start and the struggles people go through to keep on training. Some leaders are experienced 10k runners and half marathoners and love to share their knowledge on conditioning, nutrition, and race preparation. The common denominator among our leaders is they are caring people who love to see others succeed. They are:
Daryl Reynolds
Omar Kaywan
Suzanne Torjek
Sylvie Comartin
Pamela Farmer
Jason Farmer
Patrick Fowler
Brenda Palk
Matt Lees
Michelle Sommers
Karen Grommada
Santokh Farmer
Nora Saona
Lalita Kuehn
Lanny Robinson
